The Town of Troy’s Declaration of Inclusion states that “we formally condemn discrimination in all its forms [and are] commit [ted] to fair and equal treatment of everyone in our community.” Sen. Douglass’ participation in the group chat, as reported in Politico, does not align with our commitment to our diverse community.
To address the concerns of community members of Troy we would like to clarify that while Sen. Douglass has indicated on his biography that as a justice of the peace he serves on the Board of Civil Authority, at no time has he attended nor participated in the deliberations and decisions of the Board of Civil Authority. And although he only served as a lister for the Town of Troy between November 2021 – March 2022, for the past three years the Town has contracted its lister services with a private firm who completed a town wide reappraisal in 2022. All prior property assessments were reviewed.
In keeping with our Declaration of Inclusion we call for Sen. Douglass’ immediate resignation as a Town of Troy justice of the peace.
